Natural Fibers

About the material

Understanding
natural fibers.

Natural-fiber wallcoverings are hand-woven or pressed from materials such as arrowroot, sisal, jute, seagrass, linen, silk, cork and paperweave. Each fiber has a different hand and a different way of holding light.

Color and texture variation from panel to panel is inherent to these materials and part of what makes them distinctive. Depending on the product, we plan installations to work with that variation — organizing panels so the visible gradient reads as intentional.

Most natural-fiber wallcoverings are best installed over a clear wallcovering primer on prepared drywall or plaster. Fiber-run direction, seam placement and lighting should be reviewed before ordering. Requirements can vary by manufacturer and product line.
