The Room · N° 06
The fifth wall. Ceilings finished in wallcovering — grasscloth, metal leaf, hand-painted panels — turn a room's forgotten plane into its most memorable one.

Considerations
What to think through
before you choose.
- i.1
Installer, not paper, is the risk
Ceiling installation demands a different skill set. Ninety percent of failed ceiling papers we've been asked to rescue were installed by crews trained only on walls.
- i.2
Weight and lift
Metal-leaf and heavy silks require a two-person crew and staging. We plan the installation window separately from wall work.
- i.3
The moulding line
Where the paper terminates matters more than where it begins. A crown moulding gives us a clean stop; a plain ceiling-to-wall junction wants a shadow-gap detail.
- i.4
Under-lit at night
Metallic ceilings reflect the fixtures below. Test a sample with the room's actual lamps — not with daylight.
Recommended
A curated shortlist
for ceiling.
Hand-Applied Metal Leaf
Fromental, Phillip Jeffries — silver, champagne, and antique-gold leafs applied panel-by-panel.
Grasscloth
The most-installed ceiling material in our portfolio. Warms the room and softens acoustic reflection.
Hand-Painted Cloud & Sky Panels
de Gournay, Iksel — commissioned trompe-l'œil skies, painted to the exact ceiling geometry.
Coffered & Panelled Ceilings
Individual coffer inserts in silk or leather — a specialty install we handle by hand.
