Cole & Son
London · Est. 1875
English heritage house — hand-blocked wallpaper printed in the London workshops since 1875.
The House
Cole & Son has printed wallpaper for the English aristocracy — and, later, the British royal family — for a hundred and fifty years. Every one of their hand-blocked designs is still produced on original wooden blocks in London.
The house was founded in 1875 by John Perry, and to this day the workshops in Islington still hold thousands of original hand-carved printing blocks — some of them older than the company itself.
Their portfolio spans the archive alongside contemporary designer collaborations: Fornasetti (the surreal Italian art house), Ardmore (South African ceramic artists), and Erdem's own collection are all in current production.
Cole & Son is our first recommendation for clients drawn to English character — architectural florals, chinoiserie birds, Egyptian revival, and the softly-graphic geometrics for which the house is famous.
